I hear this all the time and even though I am a fan of ALL DOPE MUSIC, I wanted to get your opinion on this situation. So has hip-hop become totally separate beyond the means of genres and such categories or has it become a societal change within the hip-hop community? Is there UNITY? Or are there really different means of what hip-hop is?
Ya know what I think?

I think that I cant help but like that one song that I feel bad about liking because I know how truly stupid or irrelevant it is compared to the other dope music I listen to. BUT I have come to a conclusion that I am finally willing to accept. I love ALL music as long as it’s good TO ME. =) So next time you see me bumpin’ to some Soulja Boy or Drake and the next moment in a trance of deep thought thinking through the rhymes of Lupe Fiasco or MF Doom....remember, that good music is good music. What makes a certain song good may be different than what makes another song good. =) Just something to think about. Seriously? All my hip hoppers or just plain music lovers what do you think? Should Gucci Mane be allowed to say he is in the hip-hop genre? or should he be in that nook of southern rappers that automatically get the rep of having the club bangers and a lot of mixtapes? I think you get my drift here. Which is it? =) Unity or separation?

So...as most know...im always on the hunt for new music. If its hiphop, rock, pop, it really doesnt matter to me, as long as i like it. I came upon an up and coming RnB artist, Bryan J, whos signed to Redzone Ent(Tricky Stewart), and i have to say...i like him and his music. His Tricky Stewart("Umbrella", "Single Ladies" "So Good") produced single "Like I'm Obama" has gotten some buzz and well...it should. Its a banger and before you go undermining the music and thinking hes trying to get some hype off using Obama....just stop for a second. The record is about him wanting a girl to trust him, like most people trust Obama. So put the negativity away and listen! and you know you're going to wanna move ya feet and bop your head so just do it. They say everyday a star is born and if this is true, we have room for one more right? So help Bryan J to the top. =) Hes dope. Get it? Got it? Fresh. =)

Bottomline is if you were to mix simplicity and skill, roll it up with dopeness and light it with the flames of hiphop, you would have Jay Diction "Back from My High Atus." So they say...that hiphop or atleast real hiphop is gone...? I disagree. Its not gone, its just not as easy to find as the sounds taking up airwaves on the radio. Anyway, one word/one name: Versis. Everyone knows im big on underground music and this is no different, what can i say, his music is DOPE. His EP, "Synergy" produced by Lucid and scratched by DJ Foci has some of the best music i've heard in a while. And thats saying a lot considering im adding all kinds of different music to my ipod on a daily basis, but i always listen to Synergy, a daily ritual if you will. Now, why would i do this? Ill tell you why, because its simply Fresh. When i need a moment with No Stress i Take 5 and listen. While most rappers have Dreams of being fully emerged in that Mob Mentality, Watchout! This guy is the truth and definitely Never to be Slept On, so Say Goodbye to the norm for a second and listen to Versis. Lyrical essence+dope beats=WORTH YOUR TIME No seriously, do it. Get it? All of those words associated with Brooklyn Rock/Hip-Hope/Dope group "Shinobi Ninja" are true.

You already know me and my random music rants, i stumbled across this group on twitter and let my fingers do the rest. As i visited their page i see the words "Free Ep"...uh-oh you know what that means...and 20 seconds later im downloading "Brooklyn to Babylon."
So do you remember Back in the Daze when there was music like Run DMC and Beastie boys that would get your feet moving NO MATTER WHAT? Well that feeling has resurfaced in Shinobi Ninja. As i listen to "Black Dreams" i cant help but nod my head and feel the words..."This yellowbrick roads gonna bring me down"...simple greatness. Then i have to STOP! and Jump to This song called "Rock Hood"...what? Rock Hood. YES they rockin hood rockin hooooddd. It was amazing...then i wonder if the Rain of dopeness that im getting is being felt from Brookly to Babylon? If not, it should be because they are some straight up Superstars with Superstar quality.
So my advice for the day and the whole reason for this review? I encourage everyone to Rock Hood with D.A., Baby Girl, Maniac Mike, Adriano Morez, Terminator Dave, and DJ Axis, also known as the wreckingball-in-your-face-crew of SHINOBI NINJA! If you are a fan of rock hip-hop cool music good music great music fun music...lets just put it this way...if you are a fan of MUSIC as a whole...you def want to add this EP to your collection. Get it? Got it? Fresh. =)

So...with the sudden increase in hype with mixtapes...it seems like everybody and everybody's somebody has dropped a mixtape. I do not see a problem with this but i find myself sometimes deleting full mixtapes at a time. There have been a few that have stayed on my computer and stayed in constant rotation on my ipod. "Everybody's Nobody" by artist XV is definitely one of those. I have listened to the whole mixtape a few times now(freshly downloaded a few hours ago) and the constant feeling i get after listening is that "man...this isn't even an album in stores, I've PAID for worse quality music." I cant even really call it a mixtape anymore it is fair to say that this could defenitely be an album! Just when i started to think that rappers stopped caring about quality...

The journey opens up with "Everybody's Nobody" and i have to say it is a GREAT song. its one of those songs you can happily sing along to but still pay attention to the lyrics and actually get something out of it. Now with the rest of the mixtape, the hype and feeling does not stop, it never stops, and after listening to track 4, I'm thinking this whole mixtape has A.D.D! So then i Come Back Down to the sounds of "Mirrors Edge" and I'm still stunned at the lyrical quality not to mention the addicting beat. After that I'm Blinded by "Start A War(ft. Colin Munroe)" simply because the subject matter is one that many people have tackled but not in such a way as XV. Songs like "Live vs Livin(ft. Big Sean)" and "Gobstopper(ft. Wiz Khalifa)" balance out the mixtape with a fast paced vibe and swag filled verses, and Bad News is a wonderful to begin to round up the journey and keep you wanting more, and hopefully we will get more, In Due Time. Now Look, if you are thinking that this review is just a bunch of mess and I'm simply venting on how much i love the mixtape you are partially right, i do love this mixtape but these words i speak are everything but mess! This is only my opinion, and between Me and You, there is alot of hype going on nowadays but this is definitely one you can trust, that is...if you don't like wack verses or played out rhymes, if not then dont be afraid to jump down The Rabbit Hole with this one!

Yesterday, BET's video countdown show, 106 and Park took some time to address the many issues of body image. In the midst of this, host, Rocsi came out about the many body image issues she had as a teenager and some of those that still bother her.

i just wanted to be skinny. That’s all I wanted. And it’s hard even now in this industry. God! We go through so much. All the women in this industry, this is so not us guys. When we wake up in the morning, this is not what you see. And it’s even hard with the blogs, recently I wore my hair in a ponytail and they were talking about my ears. They were like “Keebler Elf” and this that and the other. And you try not to make it hurt, but it hurts and your appearance is everything.
The only reason why I came out. Alot of minority women go through this. I used to think that it was a “white” syndrome. I thought only white people were anorexic or bulimic and I didn’t think that anyone like me or that looked like me would go through this.

I give her the greatest respect for doing this because so many young girls and females alike glorify the image and status that she has a host on 106 and Park, and for her to use that status to tell others about what she went through probably helped alot of people who watched the show. Kudos to you Rocsi! Get it? Got it? Fresh. =)

Now...we all remember the sane B. Spears from "back in the day" and if you knew anything about her, you knew this song if not you had definitely heard it before. "Slave 4 U" is one of her most famous songs, but what some people don't know is, this beat was sampled from a female group of the 80s, Vanity 6. The sample comes from their song "Nasty Girl*." Take a listen to "Slave 4 U" and then go and listen to "Nasty Girl" either way, it doesn't matter but you will definitely see a similarity in the beat. And don't think it stops there, there is some major homage being paid to Vanity 6. You can listen to "Glamour Girl" by Electrik red and then listen to "Make-Up*" by Vanity 6 and you will hear the similarities in the beats and later on in the lyrics.

Word is...Terius "The Dream" Nash, is planning to retire his solo r&b career. He has had numerous hits such as "Shawty is a 10," "I Luv Ur Girl," "Rockin That Thing," "My Love(ft. Mariah Carey)" and his newest single "Walkin On the Moon(ft. Kanye West)." All of these hits came from two albums, his freshman, "LoveHate" and "Love Vs. Money." He plans to come out with a 3rd final album entitled
"Love King" and gracefully bow out of the music industry.

“I am engaged and ‘Love King’ IS going to be my last album,” It is going to be last because everybody is trying to “KILL THE DREAM!” I will still be producing, writing, and featuring on other artists album though.”

Now i am a HUGE Dream fan, i love all of his music and i think that he is one of the most talented artists in our time, but really? 3 albums? It makes me think of the older days when people had 9 and 10 albums to hold on to. First Jay-Z wants to retire(which we see didn't last long) then Lupe Fiasco is said to be retiring after his 3rd and coming album "L.A.S.E.R.S" and now this? Man, this is sad. U-N-I Land of the Kings

First and foremost the song is great with great lyrical quality not to mention the addicting beat, but to see this video makes me relieved that such a good song wasn't wasted on a typical hiphop video. U-N-I, a westside hip hop duo, made some noise with their earlier mixtape(Before there was love) and with their most recent, A Love Supreme. This song and video is a project they did in collaboration with Green Label Sounds and Mtv U, and is definitely not your typical rap video. Now interestingly enough, this weeks 2times2sday post consists of a...trend in haircuts if you will. the interesting part about it is that it hasnt even been a few months since Cassie first shaved the side of her head, then came Rihanna, and now LaLa and Carmen Electra. This is being done how many times now, i am interested to see who else will make the bold move of shaving off the side of their head. Cassie started it, and now there is some definite biting going on. Hmm...not to mention that the shaving and short haircuts was very much alive in the 80s...

As an earlier post stated, Lupe Fiasco's first single "Shining Down" of his new album "L.A.S.E.R.S." was leaked, well now its available on itunes so go check that out. But besides that point, i don't discriminate against any type of music but i am a huge fan of lyricism mainly found in Hip Hop. I was beginning to hear the flat line of the lyricist heartbeat as the same 4 or 5 songs were played on the radio repeatedly and talking about nothing more than physical relationships and material things. That's all good, but being a true music fan I've hea rd a lot of great things in Hip Hop by great artists over the years and sometimes the radio doesn't cut it. To bring it back, Lupe's new single can be heard and for the most part receive a pretty general and understanding view on the subject matter, but who knew that if you really listen to the lyrics or even read them, that there are references and meanings that one would have never thought of. One would say it can be a riddle. Some would ignore this fact claiming that his rhymes are "too complicated" and "a waste of time" but depending who you are, his lyrics amongst those of other artists is whats keeping Hip Hop alive. The whole inspiration for this post was the breakdown of the song "Shining Down" found on a blog that made this subject matter post-worthy. Now i think its time to address the "kicks" and "sneaker" obsession present in today's generation and culture. There seems to be some sort of misconception when it comes to kicks because people start to think that they are only for the young male...? Nay guy. I think not. I am speaking for every female who is a certified sneaker head. Since we are women we are supposed to prance around in heels all the time? No. I am a big fan of Nike, Alife, Adidas, Supras, Reeboks, and many other sneaker brands that are out there in the world. I will say that i will occasionally fall in love with some new heels that just hit the market, but i am forever a sneaker head...sometimes with no sneaker bread but ifs there a will there's a way. And i don't think its being "less of a woman," "unladylike," or "tomboyish," i feel it is simply an element of style that some females can work with and others feel obligated to rebel against. and by all means there is no problem with that, i just feel like us "kicks over heels" females don't get as much recognition as the mainstream model or "glamour girl." its time for a change! Lets start the movement! Ladylike sneaker heads unite! LOL.

Now...as some people know i am a music head, so sometimes i go on random searches and YouTube/google rants and journeys for new/unrecognized talent. I stumbled across a group named The Futhamuckas...*i know right*. Before listening to their music i noticed their outrageously cool-stupid fresh-dope-make you do a double take-style. That alone was enough for me to give them a listen, and after my ears agreed with what they were being given, i was in love. These guys are NOT your regular group of people in music but in life in general. There music cannot be described in one word but some of the words that come to mind are: electronic, random, headbangin, hip hop, rockin, techno, funny, did he just say that? J2z, Baga, and Little Brother bring to us their EP "The Futhamuckas" and i will tell you if you are in the mood for a good time, and something definitely different from the radio and any other music, give it a listen. They say they are party boys and that is most definitely evident in there music with there heart racing,neck breaking,vibe certified beats, interestingly indescribable lyrics,and flare! Now if you're like me, your initial reaction was an eye squint and head tilt, but when i thought about, its actually very creative and interesting. Who knew!? And the fact that one of these toothbrushes featured is made of 24K gold doesn't hurt either...well all i have to say is that this adds to what some rappers can brag about in their lyrics . Okay now as you know the BET awards were on Sunday night, and although the night was filled with many Michael Jackson t-shirts and outfits, one person who stood out to me as he got on stage was...the infamous Lil' Wayne. Now as soon as he hit the stage i saw Timberland Boots!! Or some may know them as "Tims/Timbs". For as long as i live, i never want to hear anyone say again(after Usher,Chris Brown Omarion, etc) "He is the next Michael Jackson" because that will never be true. I think the saying "never say never" deserves an exception in this case. Michael Jackson passed away today, 6/25/09 at the UCLA hospital, at the age of 50, and he will forever be remembered. But as most times with deaths of celebrities who have had "problems" you have that fair share of people on the sideline who dwell more on those problems than the actual successes. Not to advocate for what he did or didn't do, i believe that we should remember him for his music, hard work, triumph, and over all megastardome. With albums such as Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Invincible, and the list goes on, he is accredited for more than just "singing." We can give him credit for paving the way for SO many of the artists out today, from the lyrics they sing, samples they use, or the steps they dance, Michael Jackson is accredited for so much of it, and the fact that he is definitely one of the greatest performers of our time doesn't hurt either. I know others who are older than me can remember dancing to his music playing on the record player and now to my generation who have him on our ipods and online playlists. I know i can remember my first time seeing the thriller video at the age of about 3 or 4, and i was scared out of my life, but as i grew up and listened to him more and more, like most people i fell in love with the music. From the Jackson 5 to The Wiz from records to tapes to ipods to YouTube videos Michael Jackson you will always be remembered. God Bless you and your family. R.I.P.

Reality Really Entertaining? its okay...your not the only one

OKAY. So there has been a sudden emergence in reality TV correct? I will say some of these shows are kinda..."What's the point? i haven't laughed in the past 45 minutes" BUT i will also say i follow them too =(. I don't know what it is...is it...the stupidity? the "this is so stupid but i cant turn away" factor? I think so. But no matter who you are, if you watch TV or even keep up with the vast world of entertainment, you have AT LEAST thought about watching a reality TV show. I mean come on: Real World(too many seasons to be specific), Real World/ Road Rules Challenge, Runs House, Flavor of Love, I love New York, Real Chance of Love, Daisy of Love, For the Love of Ray J, Made, The Hills, College Hill, ANTM, ITS ALL THERE. And I'm an advocate of the "one show watch rule." I will watch one show, 9 times out of 10 the first episode, and if i like it, ill continue to watch the show. But beware, they are easily addicting. So the more you find yourself checking the clock around prime time every night of the week, and then watch and find yourself saying "Is she really doing this? What is her problem? Come on now..." you my friend, are a reality watcher =(. the first step to recovery is to first admit you have a problem and the next step is to become content with yourself(because its not a problem if you dont think it is =]) after watching, because as my friends and i have discovered, the first time you say "You know what show I'm mad that i watch?" your done. Just don't get too crazy with it...and start believing you are in the show...because most of it is scripted anyway. *Recession people, I'm guessing that the cost for a sitcom is more than a reality TV show?*

Hello everybody in .com land! Today is the first....2times2sday post!

2times2sday is a weekly post(on Tuesday duh lol) that is dedicated to everything being done over again. What i mean by this is that as most people know, many of the movies, music, and fashion that are so called "coming out" now, have been done by the generations before us. So every Tuesday i will blog about something that is making a come back or being used again. For example, RayBan shades(alive in the 50s and 60s, recently made a come back in 2008/09). But it doesn't just involve fashion i might post about a new song that has come out that sampled a song from way back when, and the same goes for movies, or anything else that is resurfacing. This weeks edition is about the religious jewelry. Fashion icons like Madonna and others wore different kinds of religious jewelry and besides the Cross, most of it fashionably died. Welllll, its back again, a number of entertainers have been seen wearing rosaries! Wow.

Before you start thinking you are the first to do something, make sure you check with the years before us first because 9 times out of 10, its already been done...

Now, since this blog is about any and everything, this post is about...Gospel Rap. I am a big fan of gospel rap, I'm a big believer in God, but a lot of people think that the "Spiritual/Inspirtational/GOSPEL" music is a little boring for their taste(I'm not gonna lie, i do lol). But like most things there are alternatives. Gospel rap is one of them. Now if you like T.I., Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Tpain, Common, hip hop/rap artists alike, there is nothing at all wrong with that. If your parents listen to Byron Cage, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Israel and the New Breed and Dietrich Haddon( i know a lot of people are like "huh?!, Who?!" but if you heard the songs they sing you would prob know who I'm talking about lol) and it doesn't necessarily get to you, and you believe in God and wouldn't mind listening to gospel music, if it caught your attention and you felt you could relate to it, then do i have the solution for you. =) Gospel Hip hop people! Artist such as Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, Cross Movement, Theory Hazit and Braille all have the same flow, beats, and swag as mainstream radio artists but just a different message, most of the time. These artists are guaranteed to have your ipod bumpin, have you movin with the music, all while talking about God. So the next time your parents complain about you not having any gospel music on your ipod or whatnot, just pick up a few of these artists' latest projects and that solves many problems. or if you are even looking for a break from all the generic hip hop/rap on the radio and want something that has to do with your faith, check them out. And just a reminder even though most of these artists are Christian, their music doesn't discriminate against other religions and you will most likely be able to identify anyway. God is love. Get it? Got it? Fresh. =)

The first message you get from reading it is, No hate, that's cool. Then if you know about whats going on California about the No on Prop 8 movement(same sex marriage), you start to think "ooohhhh No ON prop 8" I think that this is the best advertising for a prop/movement I've ever seen. i love the way its a quick phrase to remember but at the same time gets to the point of the campaign. Great support is coming from this campaign and its simply...dope.

So...there's been a new switch in men's style right? Ya know the whole skinny jeans phenomenon. my only question is if these jeans are so skinny, then why are they still being sagged? I think that these jeans some dudes are walkin around here with are a little too tight, but that's just me. But i think what really gets me is the fact that they are so tight but still you're putting them under ya butt. Come on! Its not even cute to me really. Fitted jeans are nice, a fitted jean is A-Okay with me , especially with some high top kicks, very cute. But when you have a size zero pant size knowing full on that you're a size 5 or so, and then the nerve to put that on top and then under some boxers? Ew? But maybe its because I'm a girl? Idk. So Lupe Fiasco's new record with Matthew Santos "Shining Down" was leaked and he was PISSED. Besides the fact that he is one my favorite if not my favorite rap artist and i HAVE all of his CD's(ya know those shiny little discs that they sell in music stores), i think he has every right to be heated. Especially when you go out of your way to make sure no one CAN leak your stuff in your studio...

Someone hacked my email. I was about to fire my entire staff and cut off relationships over shining down leaking last night. Bun B hit me and was like "the records dope" and i was like "what record?" nobody even has it. the only possible explanation is my email chain with the mix studio (which is air tight...the studio that is) was hacked and that's where the record came from.

Def Jam's new recording artists Electrik Red recently dropped their freshman album (May 26, kinda late but hey I'm new), How To Be a Lady Vol. 1. This dynamic girl group is by far the most "in your mouth(no pun intended)" and incredible group that MUSIC has seen since, dare i say, TLC. Binkie, Naomi, Leslie and Sarah bring to society a new woman, a woman who is not afraid to tell her man whats on her mind in EVERY aspect of the relationship, make sure her dude is on point, all while taking over the world. This is the most slept on album of the year so far, and i mean this with the utmost seriousness. While they have their fair share of loyal fans, the star quality and "real" factor this album brings should be seen and heard everyday. Each song could double as the theme music for the girl-next-door, to the most notorious female lawyer in the United States. With songs such as "On Point" and "P is for Power," these ladies let men know that they are not to be reckoned with accompanied by a sexy sassy swag. Although the album has its potential club bangers and radio killers, the tempo is balanced out with the slow jam quality of "Devotion" and "Go Shawty," just to name a few, and not to mention the great choice of singles "So good" "Drink in My Cup" "Friend Lover." If you find yourself even beginning to admire, like, love, or even nod your head to any of their singles, do not hesitate to cop the album because you will not be disappointed at all. All four of these women have been back up dancers and video girls for very prestigious names in music and have been video girls, BUT don't let this fool you. they can perform and they can satisfy. For guys who just buy the album for the sensual, sexual lyrics and in hopes of pictures in the booklet, to the girls who buy it because they agree with every word Electrik Red has to say, this album is for any and everyone looking for a good time in their car, computer or ipod.

So! here it is. I'm going to tell you why i started this blog in the first place, because i really love alot of things. These things consist of music, shoes, comments, movies, youtube videos, randomness, fashion, and just being informed and anti-ignorant(or at least i try to be) to so many things in the world, and i dont descriminate!
